National Coming Out Day

Happy National Coming Out Day!

Today I hosted a screening of the film Inlaws & Outlaws for the Staff Council of the University where I work. We had 25 people watching it at three locations throughout our state. Everyone was moved to laughter and tears, and unanimously want to host a larger event to include faculty, students and our broader University community.

Inlaws & Outlaws is a very candid look at marriage and relationships, both gay and straight, and without preaching at all, portrays the simple fact that we all just want to love and be loved, and we share a lot more in common than not.

I've already had four people, all straight actually, tell me they want to buy the film. It's that good. They want to see it again and share it with their family and friends. Check out the web site for clips and more information. (www.inlawsandoutlawsfilm.com/)

Hi there --

I'm the filmmaker of Inlaws & Outlaws and came across your post re: screenings you had for Nat'l Coming Out Day. I'm really glad you're showing the film and that it's had a good reception. But I have to let you know that, while we want as many people to see it as possible, unfortunately, we can't have any kind of public screening without licensing it to you first. I'm about $135,000 in debt and, in order to keep distributing it to schools, churches, equality groups etc, everyone who shows it outside of the home needs to pay a license. It's pretty cheap: $75 for groups of 100 or less.

SO, having said that, I'd appreciate it if you could get a hold of us. We're launching a national tour on Valentine's Day -- and I'l be traveling all over with the film -- starting in the NW. I'd love to come to your next screening, if you're still planning on having another one.

Anyway, Happy New Year. We do appreciate the support and hope we can get your screenings on the map.

All the best,
